The One Great Story: The Complete Map of Every Story You Have Ever Lived
A Two-Day Masterclass for Entrepreneurs Who Want to Understand the Architecture of Their Own Life — and Use It to Transform What Comes Next
There is a reason you have been drawn to certain stories your whole life.
The films that stayed with you long after the credits rolled. The books you read twice, not because you wanted to but because you needed to. The biographies of people you never met but felt you knew. The myths and legends that seemed, somehow, to describe something true about your own experience even though they were set in worlds nothing like yours.
You were not simply entertained by those stories. You were being mapped.
Every story that has ever moved you — every film, every novel, every biography, every myth — operates on the same underlying architecture. There are seven basic plot structures that recur throughout every kind of storytelling, from ancient myths and folk tales to the popular movies and TV of today. There are twelve archetypes — patterns of character so fundamental to human experience that Jung believed they were part of our collective unconsciousness, part of who all humans are, that we are born with. There are thirty-six dramatic situations — the irreducible catalogue of every human conflict that has ever driven a story forward.
And underneath all of them, organising all of them, giving all of them their direction and their meaning, is one structure: the Heroine’s Journey. The pattern that Peter de Kuster identified in the stories of womankind and has spent twenty years tracing through the lives of 5,000 professionals who answered seven honest questions about their work, their passion, their fear, and their happiness.
The One Great Story is the complete map. And your business, your life, and the next chapter you are about to write are already on it.
What is The One Great Story Masterclass?
A two-day intensive — in Paris or online — in which Peter de Kuster guides a small group of maximum twelve entrepreneurs through the complete architecture of The One Great Story: the Heroine’s Journey as the overarching structure, the seven basic plots as the narrative engines, the twelve archetypes as the character forces, and the thirty-six dramatic situations as the conflict catalysts.
Not as literary theory. As a practical map of your own life and business — right now, at this specific moment in your journey.
Because here is what twenty years of studying 5,000 professional stories has taught Peter: every entrepreneur is living one of the seven basic plots whether they know it or not. Every entrepreneur has a dominant archetype that drives their decisions, their relationships, and their blind spots. Every entrepreneur is in the middle of one of the thirty-six dramatic situations — and most of them have no idea which one it is or what it means for what comes next.
The One Great Story gives you the map. And once you have the map, you can stop navigating by instinct and start navigating by understanding.
The two days:
Day One — The Map
Morning: The Heroine’s Journey as the structure of your business story — where did it begin, where are you now, and what stage of the journey are you actually in? Not the official version of your founder story. The real one.
Afternoon: The seven basic plots — which plot is your business living right now? Is it a Quest (you are searching for something essential that seems always just out of reach)? A Rebirth (something that was stuck or wrong is slowly transforming into something better)? An Overcoming the Monster story (there is a force — in the market, in your organisation, in yourself — that is threatening what you have built)?
Evening reflection: each participant writes a one-page Story Diagnosis — the plot their business is living and what that plot requires of them in the next chapter.
Day Two — The Transformation
Morning: The twelve archetypes — which archetype are you when you are at your best? Which archetype does your business embody? And — the harder question — which archetype are you when you are at your worst, and what does that cost you?
Afternoon: The thirty-six dramatic situations — which situation is driving the central conflict in your business right now? Is it a situation of Ambition? Of Rivalry? Of Sacrifice for an Ideal? Of Discovery of the Dishonour of a Loved One? Each situation has a specific resolution logic — a way through that the dramatic structure itself points toward.
Closing: each participant writes a Story Rewrite — a two-page document that captures the plot they are in, the archetype they are operating from, the dramatic situation at the heart of their current challenge, and the first three steps of the next chapter.
And then: They Lived Happily Ever After
The final thirty minutes of the masterclass are devoted to the most misunderstood phrase in the history of storytelling. They lived happily ever after is not a naive promise of permanent bliss. It is a precise description of what the Heroine’s Journey produces when it is completed with full commitment: a person who has learned how to create the conditions for their own optimal experience — what Csikszentmihalyi called flow — again and again, in every subsequent chapter of their story. The happy ending is not a destination. It is a skill. The One Great Story masterclass teaches that skill.
Investment: € 695 excluding VAT per participant — two days, all materials, the Story Diagnosis and the Story Rewrite documents. Group size: maximum twelve entrepreneurs.
